Why BioBrace® Extra-Articular
Reinforced bioinduction
The BioBrace® implant is a porous type I collagen scaffold reinforced with bioresorbable PLLA microfilaments that supports new tissue formation while sharing load at the repair site. BioBrace® does not require hydration prior to use, though it can hold up to 5 cc of fluid if preferred.
Strength at time zero
The BioBrace® implant can add supplemental strength to the repair and help protect the construct during early phases of healing.
Knee extra-articular focus
Intended to reattach soft tissue to bone and reinforce soft tissue where weakness exists in extra-articular knee ligament procedures such as MCL.
Engineered fixation with Argo Knotless® GENESYS™
4.75 mm Argo Knotless® GENESYS™ anchors provide tensionable, knotless fixation with biocomposite material designed to optimize absorption and may promote bone in-growth.
Kit Contents
BioBrace® Reinforced Bioinductive Implant, 5 mm x 250 mm
Collagen scaffold reinforced with PLLA microfilaments for extra-articular ligament augmentation.
Argo Knotless® GENESYS™ Anchors, 4.75 mm x2
Knotless anchors with Smart Tension technology and GENESYS™ biocomposite for strong fixation.
High Strength Guide Pins, 2.4 mm x2 (9.0 in)
Cannulated guidance for socket preparation.
Constant Diameter Cannulated Reamer, 5.0 mm x 178 mm
Sized for interference fixation to prepare a 25 mm depth pilot hole.
Hard Bone Tap, 5.5 mm
Instrumentation to ensure clean pilot hole preparation prior to anchor deployment.
How it Works
Step 1:
Identify femoral and tibial insertion sites and prepare femoral pilot hole with guide pin, 5.0 mm cannulated reamer to 25 mm, and 5.5 mm hard bone tap.
Step 2:
Anchor the BioBrace® implant proximally by passing the tapered end through the Argo Knotless® GENESYS™ eyelet, insert to laser line, and thread to final seating.
Step 3:
Repair the ligament with the preloaded suture, then prepare the tibial pilot hole.
Step 4:
Shuttle the implant distally, tension to match native tissue, deploy second anchor, trim excess, and close.
Clinical Evidence for Extra-Articular Knee
Published MCL technique describes indications and approaches for acute and chronic MCL injuries using a bioinductive scaffold to reinforce repair or reconstruction. See Clinical Summary and Knee filter on the BioBrace® data page for peer-reviewed studies.
BioBrace® composition: Type I collagen scaffold reinforced with PLLA microfilaments designed to resorb after supporting healing.
GENESYS™ biocomposite anchors: microTCP uniformly embedded in 96L/4D PLA to boost material strength and enable bone in-growth.
